Summer is here! It's a time for taking a break from classes, relaxing in the nice weather, and working off those student loans. For some of the students in CBF, though, summer is also a great time for a missions trip!Several students have gone to Japan over their summer break for a time of deep spiritual growth on a program called GRIT. GRIT stands for God's Recruits in Training, and it is a 6-week program in Kyushu, Japan run by some of Campus Baptist Church's missionaries, Norman and Susan Smith. To keep up with what is happening with the students over in Japan, check out their blog for the summer at gritlife.blogspot.com/

Why a Book on Evolution?

Well, it is clearly not to promote the theory of
evolution. We believe in a literal 6 day
creation as taught in Genesis 1 & 2.
So what’s up?

Oh, for those of you who don’t know, we are handing out
copies of The Origin of the Species by Charles Darwin on the campus of
ISU. Several of our students are taking
over a couple of boxes of the books and handing them out in the “free speech”
zone at various times during the week.
The purpose is to get the first 50 pages of the book into the hands of
people who would not usually accept any information about the Bible.

This is a special edition of the book with a FORWARD by Ray
Comfort of Way of the Master fame. Ray
is not a scientist. But he does a pretty
good layman’s job of bringing general evolutionary concepts into question. And he goes on to suggest the truth that just
maybe, biblical creation is the real answer to the question of where we came
from and why we are here.

Read the FORWARD! The
whole book is worth the info in the FORWARD!

The Apostle Paul said he tried to use many and varied means
to get the truth of the gospel out to people who did not know or did not seem
to care. That is our attempt in an
academic setting where many have never read the Bible but have written it off
as unscientific and of no value to a thinking person. We want them to think again!

The best of the best will be battling for the crown of Super Bowl Champion on Feburary 7, 2010!

We are excited to host a Super Bowl Party at 5 PM at the Lighthouse that will include PIZZA and POP for dinner for $2.

There will be a couple of rooms set up to watch the big game; one will be for the serious watcher who wants nothing to do with commercials and everything to do with hard, skull-crushing hits, and the other for the casual I'm-in-it-for-the-commercials-only Super Bowl watchers.

Either way it will be a blast and a good time of fellowship with a devotional at halftime.

So bring your friends and your favorite snacks to share and we will see you there!

Won't be long till ISU students are heading back to Ames. We want to welcome you and meet any personal needs you have as you first arrive. CBF is really all about students helping students. You will meet John Murray and me (Lee Abuhl) and our wives but you will really find your friendship status with your fellow students. If you are asking yourself what CBF is all about and why you would like to become a part, here are some reasons.

Many of you have had a good biblical influence in your life already. You are wanting to keep growing in your relationship to God. We can help you toward that goal. Some of you have experience helping in your church back home and you are looking for a place to serve God while in college. We can help. Most of you are wanting solid, genuine friendships. You long for a place to belong, a small group of friends who care about you and will listen to your heart over the long haul ahead. That's us. A few of you are just not sure where you are on ideas and issues that pertain to God and the Bible. You are somewhat interested, willing to dialogue, looking for some truth you can be sure of. We can help you pursue that interest.

Along the way, we hope you have a lot of fun too. We will be doing some fun activities and events that are designed to let you celebrate the end of the week with no regrets. We tailgate at home football games and hand out free hot dogs to hundreds of fellow students. We have a blast cleaning up some of the trash after games. You will find that FOOD comes into play at a lot of our events. Paint ball, Pizza Fest, strategy games, music, small groups, retreats, and Friday night fun are all part of what you can experience when you jump into CBF feet first.
