Hebrews 3

Moses had the challenging responsibility of leading the faithless, disobedient Israelites for 40 years through the wilderness.  God’s discipline was slow and Moses witnessed the death of all but two of his leaders on that journey.  The people hardened their hearts to the leadership of Moses and faced the consequences, imagine the danger of rejecting one Greater – Christ.

Consider the warning in 3:12-13: “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”

It looks like our mission is to exhort, (call to our side) one another to fight the potential of hardened hearts.   This apparently involves more than just clustering together.  The Israelites spent 24/7 together yet hardened their hearts.  We must be purposeful in our times together with the intent of leading one another to a deeper faith in Christ.
