Modern technology has flooded the world with information without real concern for confirmation. “It has to be true, I read it on the internet,” is said with tongue in cheek. Even the news resorts to consulting those “anonymous sources close to the situation” in order to break a story (even if it might be proven false once credible sources comment). Our reading today reminds us that long ago God used messengers that He equipped to reveal His Words. They were prophets and would be considered pretty credible sources. However great these men and women were, God sent an even better Messenger – the Creator Jesus Christ. Hebrews is not the first book to emphasize Jesus’ role as Creator (check out John 1 and Colossians 1). It seems odd that some evangelicals fail to see Jesus the Savior as Jesus the Creator.
Jesus is not only superior to the prophets but even above the angels. Imagine those men and women of God that heard those comforting words, “do not be afraid!” Then once they finished freaking out they heard the Word of God. You pretty much believed it if an angel said it. Yet Christ is even better than those awesome angels. He is better because of Who He is. John says He is the manifestation of the Godhead. If you see Jesus you see God. If you hear Jesus you actually hear the Father. Did you see how in Hebrews 1:8 that God calls the Son, “God”?
With the click of a few buttons you can have access to literally thousands of resources about life. Many of them come from very popular and intelligent credible sources. However, to be sure that you have the best source – go to the Creator He is the one that really knows about life. You can find His words in the Bible.
